The ‘Grit ‘N’ Grime Genre Film Fest’ is a film festival all about promoting the best in Horror, Sci-Fi, Western, and other underground film genres. We want to champion low budget, creative filmmaking that breaks all the rules and frankly, doesn’t give a damn. We are a festival for the rebels, the outcasts, the ones that think differently.

Festival directors

  • Hayden Lowry

    Hayden has been involved with film for the past 14 years, working on independent features as well as making a number of his own short films, web series, and music videos. His work has been selected in festivals all around the world and has won a number of awards.

    He currently works as a full time videographer and digital content creator at Kallipr/Madison Group as well as running filmmaking workshops on the weekends at the Queensland School of Film and Television.

    Now with the Grit 'N' Grime Genre Film Fest, he hopes to champion the next generation of filmmakers.

  • Emma Critchell

    Emma is a qualified Makeup Artist from Brisbane, Australia, who has worked on a number of film, television & commercial productions, from local independent projects through to studio features such as ‘GODZILLA X KONG: The New Empire’ and Disney’s ‘Nautilus’ series.

    She has worked in the Australian film industry for the past decade, beginning her career as an Actress before moving her talents to behind the scenes, finding her true calling in the Makeup Department.

    Through her passion for honest filmmaking and a particular interest in genres like horror, sci-fi and fantasy, she hopes the Grit 'N' Grime Genre Film Fest will provide a platform for likeminded filmmakers to showcase that old-school way of genre filmmaking.
